Chief fills the ENC Hero Dogs roster

By Lyndsey Warner Caulkins

By now you’ve heard all about Robbie, one of our newest Hero Dogs. Now meet Chief, another ENC-sponsored puppy.

ENC is excited to announce another new Hero Dogs team member: Chief, the black Labrador. He is named after Charles “Chief” Alfred Anderson, Sr. Chief is enrolled in puppy classes with our other sponsored pup, Robbie and has been working on “sit,” “settle,” “touch,” “wait,” “let’s go,” and “down.”

Our sponsorship funds his puppy scholarship, which helps offset the training costs (trainer hours, facility use, classroom supplies) during the first 16-18 months, a critical period of the Chief’s learning and development. During this time, Chief lives with a foster puppy raiser and they both attend weekly training classes. Chief will also go on field trips accompanied by his trainers to work on his socialization, manners and other skills in public.

Chief is working hard and practicing what he’s learning by visiting all kinds of new places, including restaurants, a museum, a nail salon, Starbucks and even a movie theater! According to his puppy blog, he sat all the way through Interstellar and no one even noticed him until the end – and that’s a long time to sit! He’s leading a busy life that will prepare him for anything!
