This summer, ENC Strategy joined in supporting Hero Dogs, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing service dogs to injured or disabled military veterans who have served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces. ENC’s support goes toward training Grant, who has grown into quite a handsome young Labrador since our last update.
This fall, Grant has been busy with training at the Hero Dogs facility in addition to various locations where, in the future, his skills will continue to be put the test when he serves his veteran counterpart. From Lowes and PetSmart to Golf Galaxy and Hooters, he continues to make his trainers proud. According to Grant’s journal, he’s mastering the commands of sit, down, and settle; getting pretty good at heel, side and place; and perfecting wait and stay. And in certain venues, Grant’s training sometimes focuses on particular tasks. When he visits a supermarket, for instance, he spends time concentrating on automatic doors, shopping carts and stairs.
Grant’s also socializing with other dogs and cats throughout his training. He gets along well with other critters—except for koi fish. During a recent trip to the National Arboretum, his natural curiosity got the best of him when he dipped his nose into the pond for a closer look. It’s unlikely that he’ll explore pond life any further.
In October, Grant graduated from his Puppy II class and was awarded a blue ribbon for his success. We know there’s a lot more in store as Grant continues his classes and training to become a top-notch Hero Dog. Stay tuned for updates!
